About us
Professional knowledge and skills
Alan and René Shackleton opened the surgery doors in April 2005. Both vets have extensive experience in all aspects of clinical practice. We have an active interest in maintaining and developing our knowledge and skills to provide an exceptional standard of veterinary care.
Alan and René have worked continuously in practice as veterinary surgeons since qualifying in 1990, gaining valuable experience and knowledge. They moved to the area in 1996 as it was close to Cambridge University where Alan studied to complete his post graduate qualification (Certificate in Veterinary Radiology) in 1998. The habit of continually improving our skills and knowledge for the benefit of the pets under our care has continued.During this period Alan was first an assistant in a veterinary surgery in Biggleswade and Sandy, and later became a partner in the Biggleswade and Sandy Veterinary Surgeries.
We made a conscious decision early on in our careers to work in different practices, and this has allowed us to identify the best methods of pet care and now put them into practice at Potton Vets.
We provide:
Relationship
This is a family run practice which allows continuity of care and encourages an interactive relationship to develop between the owners and their pets, vets and practice members.
Time
Our 15 minute appointment slots (most surgeries use 5 to 10 minute slots) provide enough time to examine, treat and discuss your pets needs.
Quality
We are good at what we do, have the necessary equipment, and remain up to date with current advances so that we offer your pet the best treatment options. This covers all aspects of care, from primary care (vaccinations, health checks, preventative advice, screening tests), diagnostic investigations, medical and surgical treatments.
Care
Your pet will be handled by vets and staff who love animals and treat them with care and respect.
Approachable staff
All staff members are encouraged to be friendly and approachable, we encourage your questions so you have the correct recommendations to ensure the best possible quality of life for your pet.
Convenience
We are open all day 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. weekdays, and on Saturday mornings. There is easy access and free parking on the market square.
Partnership
We provide the time and effort and knowledge to give you as much information as you need to make informed decisions about your pet's health and treatment.
Emergency care
We take our responsibility to provide 24 hour cover for the patients under our care very seriously. Out of hours emergency cover is provided by a dedicated afterhours service (Vets-Now). A vet and nurse, who do not work during normal opening hours, are with your pet throughout the night and are able to provide proper veterinary treatment at any time.
